Santo Antão: General practitioners trained in psychiatry and psychopharmacology
Ribeira Grande, May 16 (Inforpress) - Several general practitioners from the Santo Antão Health Region will be trained for two days today in psychiatry and psychopharmacology, with a view to providing mental health care and treatment in the communities.
The physician and trainer, Aristides da Luz, told the press that the aim is to train general practitioners in clinical psychiatry and psychopharmacology, as a way of promoting ‘more effective and adapted’ management to the specific needs of each community and ‘prioritising’ the social and community integration of patients.
Aristides Luz defended the fact that mental health care cannot be provided only by central structures or only by specialist doctors, which is why he stressed the need to decentralise and institutionalise this care.
“This training is more to update general practitioners on procedures according to our reality, whether in terms of human resources or in terms of pharmacological resources available in the country”, he said.
