Government highlights investment in the Institute of Legal Medicine as an aid to courts in clarifying occurrences
Praia, May 16 (Inforpress) - Today, the Minister of Justice highlighted the commitment of the Institute of Forensic Medicine to assist the courts in clarifying incidents, with specialists currently being trained to set up offices on some islands.
Joana Rosa was speaking to the press as part of the International Congress of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, held this morning at Jean Piaget University, explaining that investing in science and the arts is fundamental to guaranteeing the truth in justice.
According to the minister, it is becoming ‘increasingly essential’ to clarify the processes, which is why the congress was organised with specialists from various Portuguese-speaking countries, medical and criminology law students to debate and raise the profile of forensic medicine in Cabo Verde.
‘People need to understand what forensic medicine is for, and there's nothing better than this congress so that all the operators taking part today and tomorrow can learn more about it and see the challenges, because we're still in the early stages,’ she said, emphasising that there will be a space in the Campus of Justice with departments for autopsy, biology and toxicology.
