Praia, May 16 (Inforpress) - Sisters Janice and Ludmila Varela, Zone II African beach volleyball champions, are already training on Gamboa beach with Brazilian coach Márcio Araújo, sent by the International Volleyball Federation, for the Olympic qualifiers in June.
The announcement was made public by the president of the Cape Verdean Volleyball Federation, António Rodrigues, who said that the Olympic qualifying tournament for Paris 2024 will be played from 18 to 24 June in Morocco, where six medal-winning regions of Africa will meet to determine the two places that will go to the Olympic Games in Paris.
With the victory of the Zone II gold medal, achieved last December in Senegal, the Creole volleyball players won the passport for their participation in the continental tournament, where the duo Janice and Ludmila Varela will compete in the African Olympic qualification with the winners of the remaining continental areas, aiming for Africa's qualification for the Paris'2024 Olympic Games.
Márcio Araújo, once the best player in the world and World Champion for Brazil in 2005, also has a silver medal in the 2008 Olympic Games, a bronze medal in the 2003 World Championship and Best Defensive Player in the 2005 Beach Volleyball World Tour, among other individual achievements worldwide.
